Corporate emissions reporting requirements for companies with more
than 50 employees typically mandate that these organisations track,
measure and disclose their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to ensure
transparency and accountability of their environmental impact. These
requirements are often aligned with national or international
frameworks, such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, and cover Scope 1
(direct emissions), Scope 2 (indirect emissions from purchased
energy) and, in some cases, Scope 3 (indirect emissions throughout
the supply chain).
Companies may be required to report on metrics such as total emissions
in tonnes of CO2 equivalent, energy consumption and progress towards
reduction targets. The aim is to promote sustainability initiatives,
meet legal requirements and satisfy stakeholder demands for corporate
environmental responsibility. Failure to comply can result in legal penalties,
reputational damage or loss of investor confidence.
