Every hotel on a major booking platform describes itself as “family-friendly.” The label triggers from the moment a property accepts bookings for guests under 18 — which is virtually every hotel in the world. The description you are looking for is “toddler pool,” “baby pool,” “splash zone,” “zero-entry pool,” or “wading section under 40cm.” A heated pool is preferable in Ireland and the UK, and in many European destinations outside peak summer.
3. Highchairs in the Main Restaurant
The absence of highchairs in a hotel restaurant is an immediate indicator that toddlers have not been considered in the hotel’s operational design. Every toddler-friendly hotel should have at least three highchairs available without advance booking.
4. Early Children’s Dinner Service (From 5–5:30pm)
Toddlers eat early. A restaurant that only serves dinner from 7pm — perfectly normal in Spain and Italy — creates immediate logistical stress for parents of under-3s. A toddler-friendly hotel will offer a children’s tea or an early dinner service from 5pm.
5. Room Large Enough for a Travel Cot Plus Adult Space
A standard double hotel room is often only 18–20m². With a travel cot deployed in the sleeping area, there may be no floor space remaining. Prioritise “family rooms” (typically 28m²+), “junior suites” or “interconnecting rooms” for any stay with a toddler.
