Stockholm has been doing climate engineering since the 1990s — the Hammarby Sjöstad eco-district is one of the world's most-studied sustainable-urbanism projects, and the city's commitment to fossil-fuel-free operations by 2040 is binding on the municipal portfolio. Sweden's electricity grid runs over 95% renewable thanks to a heavy hydropower base plus wind and nuclear, and the Stockholm district-heating network — Fortum Värme's loop covers most of the central city — is largely fed by waste incineration and biofuel. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is widely held by central hotels and the SJ rail network keeps direct trains running to Oslo, Copenhagen and Hamburg.

Yes — direct SJ trains reach Oslo in 6h, Copenhagen in 5h via the Øresund Bridge, and Gothenburg in 3h15. The Snälltåget night train runs to Berlin and Hamburg. The Viking Line and Tallink ferries to Helsinki and Tallinn are overnight crossings — slower than flying but with significantly lower per-passenger emissions.
